“The works archive an era of indifferent indulgence and a youth torn between prosperity and sadness, disposable culture and climate protection, self-documentation and authenticity. “Not Your Baby” is the adolescent female who hacks away at the construct of her gender and the dogma of her parents. Still living in her childhood bedroom, she begins to taste the sweet temptation of doing the no-no, she discovers her sexuality and wishes to alter her outer appearance to mark the personality change underway. Her old shell collection under her bed, bumps corners with her “top secret” box filled with scandalous letters from her crush and red butterfly thongs she hand washes to so Mommy doesn’t find them. Music also becomes a scapegoat, feeding the fantasy of another life, far from the digitalized world, terror and fake news that encircle the construct of identity. The unrestricted nature of electronic music presents an alternative- where intimacy and solidarity reign. “You Swear?” is the wallflower who reveals their anxieties in a fleeting moment of connectivity. Is it love that makes me chatter? Are my secrets safe upon new ears? These artifacts of millennial youth become time capsuls of nostalgia- banal objects infused with human vitality. Whispering intimate stories of hope, rebellion and insecurity to their wearer.”
