“A, my name is A.L.I.C.E….an acronym no student wants to know” explores the concept of A.L.I.C.E. active shooter drills that take place yearly in many schools across the country.
As a high school art teacher for the past twenty-two years, I’ve witnessed how active shooter training has been added to the list of heavy responsibilities put on teachers, and the shoulders of children.”
“This piece expresses the concept of the symbolic weight associated with shielding others’ children and the fragility of being in situations where there is no way out. Each illustration featured stands for a letter in the ALICE acronym: alert, lockdown, inform, counter and evacuate. ”
